It is August 3 and I have already been back to work for three days. I know I'll be happy in May, when we are finished before Memorial Day, but right now I am NOT doing my happy dance. So far, work has involved meetings, trainings, more meetings, more trainings....you get the idea. I don't know about you, but I am the world's worst student! My co-worker and good friend Laura over at TIPS told me today that I probably deserve every "challenging" student I get as payback for the years I tortured my teachers. After I finished making a face at her, I agreed and added that I would actually have to teach for the next 50 years just to break even. Even though I doubt any of my former teachers read my blog, I am officially apologizing for every rude, disrespectful and most of all disruptive thing I ever did. In my defense though, I never gave the teachers that captured my interest and my respect a hard time. Their examples are what drives me every year. I want to be the kind of educator that captures my students' minds and hearts (THANK YOU, MR. MARSHALL). I don't ever want to be a "Mr. D", the World History teacher who showed a movie EVERY SINGLE DAY! Now he might of mixed it up a little bit after the first few weeks, but by that time he had already told me that I could to go to the guidance office and switch classes if I didn't like the way he did things. (This was after I walked in one day, saw the projector and said, "Oh my gosh! We get to watch another movie....what a surprise!) That was my last day in 9th grade World History. I guess he figured I didn't appreciate his innovative teaching methods. (Oops, did you hear the sarcasm there?)
Anyway, as I begin a new year, I look forward to the change in positions I am undertaking and look forward to an exciting and eventful year of making memories with my wonderful new group of little ones.
Once again, I am linking up with Farley over at Oh' Boy! Fourth Grade for her August Currently. I hope everyone enjoys this new year full of "Adventures in Teaching."
Have a Spectacular Saturday!
